“My Signature Song”

PARENT TESTIMONIALS

  • Seeing Piper stand up and sing is something that was so far beyond our expectations when we signed on with Molly last summer. Piper truly comes alive when she’s with Molly, it’s magical to witness. She has opened up so much. She is learning many valuable life lessons and skills, in addition to singing and having fun. Molly is the kindest, most encouraging person and tons of fun! To say she is amazing with these girls is an understatement.

  • Our daughter has worked with Molly for almost a year. We have watched her laugh, act silly, and bloom like never before. Through positive affirmations, mentorship, singing, and music, our daughter is orchestrating her own life song. We couldn’t be more happy with Molly’s program.

  • I found Molly and her program through a local parenting Facebook page after moving to Marblehead in the fall of 2022 and reached out right away.  Our 9 year old daughter is in 3rd grade and learning how to navigate some tricky social situations, friendships, etc.  We wanted to find something that would help her connect with kids locally, while also fostering her creativity and helping to build her confidence.

We were so happy and thankful to have found Molly!  She has given Quinn the confidence to be herself and to speak up when she feels it’s important.  She has created a safe space for Quinn to speak openly about her feelings. Quinn's favorite part is the group work - she gets to sing fun songs, but also gets to be social and silly and connect with her peers.

By far, the best moment as her parent was seeing her on stage performing with Molly at Antique Table.  We know Quinn is amazing - but watching her perform onstage, in front of a room full of strangers without barely a glance at her family sitting nearby - was truly breathtaking.  She's excited to do it again (and again and again) and we can't wait to see more magical moments in the future!

  • My daughter started working with Molly right before 3rd grade started. We were switching schools and had recently discovered through local theatre programs that theatre was my daughter’s favorite activity. Every audition she strived for a bigger and better role without as much success as she hoped for.

Knowing this, I signed my daughter up to sing with Molly hoping it would improve her confidence singing and performing and translate to happiness in her theatre programs. It worked!

Just one performance with Molly at Abbot Hall made a noticeable difference in her comfort level performing anywhere, whether just in front of a friend or at her next audition. The next audition was a success and the joy and self confidence that resulted in being able to achieve her goals were palpable.

In addition to singing and performing, Molly is amazing with the girls. She guides them in small groups now to just be themselves and have joy doing it.

My daughter loves her sessions with Molly!

  • My daughter has only participated for a few weeks, but I was amazed to see how comfortable she was right from the start. With any new person, you would expect some time to settle in and a little hesitation with sharing but right from the first moments my daughter clearly trusted Molly. She bought in right away and quickly found a group of girls that she will also be comfortable with. On top of all of this, Molly is such an awesome musician and it’s so great to be there with her while she is playing and singing.

  • I was so surprised the first time I saw Ellie sing in front of a group. Molly has helped my shy little girl transform into a confident, young woman! It has been amazing to watch her grow like this.

  • Molly is incredibly talented and full of positive energy.  Molly’s group was performing at the Festival but the message behind the performance wasn’t just the singing.

My youngest daughter was a similar age to the group of girls at the Festival so I took Molly’s number.  We tried a session and my daughter loved it.  My daughter hasn’t had a love of music, but I think she loves all the ideas from Molly that go with performing.

She loves both the group sessions and the one-on-one’s.  She is practicing for a solo in May and is so incredibly excited!

It’s not just a focus on the song selections. It’s about standing up in front of a group and gaining your composure; fighting back negative thoughts; and pushing through things that might hold you back.  These are life skills.

Molly is wonderful with young girls and I hope that she can reach a wider audience in the future with school programs and maybe even on a national level with Girls Scouts!

  • I feel especially proud that my daughters helped inspire the creation of Miss Molly’s Musical Magic. They were her first street performers!

The two biggest things I’ve noticed since Polly officially started this program is her willingness to try things without overthinking or getting anxious and being more open to different music, people and opportunities.

Polly also now speaks to us and friends about her gremlin/wise owl, which is so healthy.. She’s generally more open with us - something we’re grateful for approaching teenage years!

Organice Honeycrip Apple slices…cut in special flat slivers…are a fun, healthy part of our sharing time.

Miss Molly’s Musical Magic IS…

…about helping girls find their unique gifts and develop the skills to navigate life with confidence.

Miss Molly’s Musical Magic is NOT…

… a music or theatre school. Miss Molly, a.k.a. Molly Williams, is a professional life coach using singing and performing to help girls realize their full potential.

The following two articles offer helpful research explaining the biggest challenges facing teens and tweens today.

  1. According to the National Institutes of Health, nearly 1 in 3 of all adolescents ages 13 to 18 will experience an anxiety disorder, and these numbers have been steadily rising. See article by Dr. Claire McCarthy, a primary care pediatrician at Boston Children's Hospital and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.

  2. Research indicates that girls’ confidence levels plummet between the ages of 8-14; building resilience through risk-taking and failing is critical. See article.

Miss Molly’s Musical Magic offers a creative intervention addressing these challenges.

How the Magic Works

Miss Molly’s Musical Magic encourages girls to take safe risks through singing and sharing. Performances are optional, but once girls gain confidence, they almost all want to perform!

Polly Read performing her Signature Song at Antique Table to a room full of patrons enjoying dinner and drinks. They are in awe at her confident presence. Molly invites one girl to each of her “big girl” gigs to perform. This opportunity offers an incredibly special and powerful opportunity for the girls to experience how awesome they really are!

  1. SINGING: The girls in this program love to sing and most are scared to perform, especially a solo. They pick a Signature Song, one that reflects her spirit. We practice it over and over, standing at a microphone, slowly growing her comfort level with her voice, her body, and presenting herself to an audience. The girls learn the importance of the 3 P’s = Practice, Patience, Persistence. More Signature Songs are added over time. The singing is the backdoor for Molly to help the girls grow in key areas such as positive mindset, confidence, and presentation skills.

The Magic Carpet - a heart-shaped rug where we stand and reconnect to the best parts of ourselves.

2. SHARING: The foundation of Molly’s work with the girls is on “The Magic Carpet”. The Magic Carpet is where the girls discuss their Gremlin and Wise Owl and learn how to transform negative, worry thoughts and behaviors into positive, empowered thoughts and behaviors. When the girls start meeting in small groups (up to 3 girls per group), this process is especially transformative. They normalize each other’s challenges as they share their stories; they learn how to feel safe being vulnerable and not hiding from what’s difficult; they offer kindness, friendship, and support for each other; and they have FUN while practicing the art of calming their brains and strengthening their “Wise Owl”. That said, it is not uncommon for a girl to switch between group sessions and 1-1’s. The 1-1’s allow Molly to go deeper with each girl and address things that cannot be easily addressed in a group setting.

Meet the Wise Owl and Gremlin

Every Musical Magic session begins with a Wise Owl-Gremlin lesson and practicing sensory mindfulness to calm their body and nervous system. With weekly repetition, and ideally reinforcement at home, these concepts can become life-changing. The girls learn how to quiet and calm the stress region of their brains and strengthen their positive mindset muscles. It is an operating system for a healthy brain and happy life.

For Parents with Anxious Kids

Molly offers a 7-week intensive for adults called “Positive Intelligence”, an advanced science-based mental fitness program that changes how we understand our own and others’ stress responses. Molly highly recommends any parent with an anxious child to go through this program to understand how one re-wires the brain and nervous system and actually learn the practice for themselves. It is a life-changing opportunity for the WHOLE FAMILY.

The Wise Owl-Gremlin lessons are Molly’s kid-friendly version of Positive Intelligence. If parents do not wish to go through Positive Intelligence, Molly encourages parents to come on their own for at least one or two coaching sessions to learn what she is teaching so they can have the skills to support their own kids, as well as themselves.

When whole families have common language and a creative, fun tool for managing stress, everyone is healthier and happier.

Coaching Support for Non-Singers

Molly also helps non-singing girls and boys of all ages as a holistic life coach to address their stress, anxiety, confidence, or whatever challenges they may be facing. Please reach out to discuss coaching options or just go ahead and schedule a 45-Minute or 60-Minute Youth Coaching Session here.

SESSIONS & PERFORMANCES

ONE-ON-ONE: Every new girl starts 1-1 with Molly to learn her Signature Song and the Wise Owl-Gremlin concepts. This initial time together is very important for Molly to build a trusting relationship; Molly needs time “to see” each girl and start working with her in the areas where she most needs support. Molly offers both 45 and 60-minute sessions. Any girl who needs extra coaching support around anxiety, self-image, etc…should be scheduled for 60-minute sessions.

SMALL GROUPS: After 4 sessions, if your daughter would like to join a small group (up to 3 girls per session) and she is ready (a conversation will happen between Molly and parent), we will work to find a group with an opening or try to create a new group. Some girls need more 1-1 time than others, and some girls may never wish to join a group. When there is a group, the session time is extended (2 girls = 60 minutes; 3 girls = 75 minutes).

GROUP SONGS: We work on a playlist of group songs. Some girls may not wish to perform their Signature Song, even if it’s “ready”. At performances, the group songs are the perfect place to start building confidence being on stage.

PERFORMANCES: Molly creates multiple performance opportunities throughout the year. Over the past year, performances included: Festival of Arts Marketplace, Christmas Walk (Abbot Hall Stage), and Salem Halloween Street Performing. Each girl was also invited to sing her Signature Song during one of Molly’s adult-band gigs at Antique Table and Marblehead Yacht Club, which was an extraordinary opportunity. The performances are each girl’s chance to show off all her hard work and gain even more confidence in her abilities, but they are purely optional. The most important part of Miss Molly’s Musical Magic is the time spent working together off-stage….opening up, exploring, trying new things…along with her efforts in between sessions practicing her songs, strengthening her skills, and committing herself to her own success!

PERFORMANCE LOCATIONS: Molly has been offered performance space by fabulous businesses like Shubie’s and MacRae’s Sustainable Goods. Street performing in the warmer months is also a ton of fun. Molly is always on the lookout for opportunities to showcase the girls’ talents and welcomes your help!

Miss Molly’s Musical Magic is creative, impactful, and FUN!

Individual Sessions Location

Individual sessions take place at Molly’s home in Marblehead around the corner from Starbucks. Parents should come visit in-person for the first session and then you can simply drop off your daughter every week thereafter if you wish.

Registration Process

There is no formal registration period. As girls enroll, their journey begins.

  • Step 1: Purchase one 60-minute introductory session to start. This session will include a parent/daughter tour; time for both to learn more; and have your daughter sample what these sessions are like. The parent often leaves after the first 15 minutes but may opt to stay if their daughter is extra anxious. (Make sure you set up an account in the scheduling software immediately after your purchase so you can easily login and manage future sessions.)

  • Step 2: If your daughter loves her first session and Molly feels it is the right fit, you can go ahead and purchase a 4-week package using the button below. Determine with Molly if 45 to 60-minutes is the right option for your daughter.

  • Step 3: After you purchase a 4-week package, schedule all your weekly sessions so your daughter’s preferred time slot is reserved each week. How Miss Molly’s Musical Magic Began

Molly's 1st Street Performance

Molly’s first street performance in Marblehead, September 2021

Molly Williams is a professional life coach with a unique set of gifts.

She went to Georgetown University undergrad, holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Washington, and has trained in and hold certifications in numerous wellness-related fields, including yoga and meditation.

Molly spent 23+ years in nonprofit administration, working predominantly with youth-related organizations in leadership positions (including Executive Director of Marblehead for Teens), before leaping into her coaching career.

She began street performing in Marblehead in September 2021. In the prior two years, she was cooped up in her living room, not because of Covid. Molly was struggling with serious health issues caused by toxic levels of mold exposure that caused her immune system to crash. She was eventually forced her to stop working, rest full-time, and dive into a complex healing journey.

During this challenging time, with the encouragement of a friend, Molly started singing and hammering away at her guitar. It brought her joy, and it became part of her daily medicine.

Molly’s big dream since she was a child was to be a performer, but she didn’t have the confidence as a teen to break ranks and follow a non-traditional education and career path. In her nonprofit career, she found herself on stage as a spokesperson raising awareness and money for good causes…but Molly has always wanted more.

Molly’s “time-out” due to her illness opened a window of opportunity to nurture her musical gifts. Her first song took her nearly two months to learn. Little by little, her skills grew until she eventually learned 2+ hours worth of songs. Her one-woman band at that time was appropriately named by her friend and musical mentor, Strong Will.

One day in late August 2021, on a whim, Molly bought a portable amp and microphone. She decided it was time to take the leap. She set herself up at a public park in Marblehead and started singing. She was nervous and felt a little crazy doing it (Marblehead is not known as a street performing community), but she felt an overwhelming pull to do it.

The small crowd that gathered to listen loved it and so did Molly. Her “impossible dream” was coming true. For Molly’s next street performance, she invited her good friends’ young daughters to come sing with her (see video at bottom)….and the rest is history.

Molly realized that as she was making her own dreams come true, she could empower other little girls to do the same.

Miss Molly’s Musical Magic was born!

Around the same time that Molly started street performing, she had surprised her friend’s daughter on her birthday, showing up with her guitar and a song she knew the birthday girl loved. THIS was the original seed that has now grown into life-changing program for every girl who participates!

The original Shooting Stars before Molly even knew she would launch a formal program 10 months later. All Molly knew was that whenever she performed, she wanted to give this special and powerful opportunity to young girls, too.

Bring on the magic !
